Jack Johnson won the title in 1908 but was later convicted of transporting white women across US state lines for immoral purposes.

Johnson served nearly one year in prison for what is now seen as a racially motivated conviction.

Back then they had laws that worked.

It states that the conviction was racially motivated, prompted by his sporting success and his relationships with white women.

I don't think there should be any pardon. But I do think that the article and the subject should be held up in front of our children, as an example of how NOT to do things, how this nog did something wrong and shady, how he got caught, and was punished for what he did. Actually he's lucky they didn't beat him to death at the time.
