Tool is good but I still say my all time favourite is Slayer. Alot of the older members here probably have never heard them. And the younger ones probably barely know who they are. But they have always been one of my favourites since a kid. Iron Maiden like Latrine said is also awesome.

Slayer, Maiden, Sabbath, Megadeth, all damn good too. Not exactly sure how may times I have seen Slayer and Megadeth but I met Slayer after a show in IL for about 30 seconds when they were signing shit and taking pictures with everyone by their bus. They were pretty cool guys. Also met Dave from Megadeth in St. Louis. He was cool. Let me take a pic with him.
I have tried meeting Maynard from Tool but that's not easy. Met all of A Perfect Circle at the Hard Rock in Vegas, then Maynard goes driving by in a jeep.
Latrine, what's your favorite Maiden album? My favs are 7th son, Somewhere In Time, Powerslave. I would probably have to pick 7th son as my favorite. Only saw them once in Chicago and it wasn't that great because it was at Ozzfest, where there is like a million people. The UK sure has produced a shitload of musical talent. Where do you even begin .

The Clash, Tubeway Army, 999, early Adam & The Ants, Anti-Nowhere League are all tied for my fave band.

I love those bands from the early '80s; the B52's, the Fixx, the Outfield, REM, the Clash, I even liked Asia, though it was somewhat overhyped. The Human League, Mister Mister, and the Pet Shop Boys were great too. I'll always love Genesis, even if they did go commercial
This might sound gay but I am a progeek (my daughters term) and one band I listen to every day is Yes. I noticed a lot of you mentioned Tool, and have a heard LOT of good things about them in prog circles. I think the only reason I havent listened to them is I know i will love them, have to go out buy their entire catalog, and then get chewed out by my wife. She thinks I already have way too music, stereos, and instruments, and I guess she does have a valid point. I love all genres of music (except crap, and hiphop), and can not really pick just one fav. Lately i have been listening to Porcupine Tree a lot, and highly recommend them.

I think Yes is underrated. Very good band. I heard a few songs from Porcupine Tree and liked them a lot. The singer sounded a lot like Maynard from Tool. I have been meaning to download their albums for sometime now.
You gotta get some Tool man! Get it off Limewire for free. Just like napster and they don't put any bullshit on your computer like some downloading programs do.

TOOL, of course. ;-) I love all of their stuff, but a few favorites are: "Ćnema", "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Schism", "Third Eye" and "Forty-Six & 2".
As far as other bands: Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Massive Attack, Alice in Chains, Radiohead, Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode, Morphine, Deftones, Pearl Jam, etc.

I think I have to go with the Rutles, they were the driving force behind so many rock and roll classics. I mean if Ron, Dirk and Stig did not congel into a musical powerhouse in the60s-70s we would have been subjected to the Monkees and Tommy James.

Without a doubt, Pink Foyd.
I agree. The Rutles are far too often overlooked. "Piggy in the Middle" is probably my favorite song of all time.
Without a doubt, "Piggy In The Middle" started the new wave of psychedelic music with the use of new recording techniques, strange time signatures, and the general notion of what constitutes a "pop" song. Although some of the more uptight critics of the time dismissed the "Tragical History Tour"album ,I still see it as a turning point from pure pop to a smorgasboard of sounds, flavors, and smells.

At the time (when I was a kid) I really bought into Ron's excursions into acid and Lewis Caroll, but in retrospect, McQuickly's ditties like "Double Back Alley" will ultimately stand the test of time.

Sure have, Pistol. I really dug the "Horses" album. There's too many groups and genres of music I love to pick one. Here's who I'm into this week. John 5, Joe Satriani, Led Zep, Jeff Beck, Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, The Ventures, Roy Buchanan, Motorhead, The Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Richard Hell, The New York Dolls, The Bobby Fuller 4, Django Reinhardt, Nokie Edwards, The Shangri-las, Louis Prima and Ella Mae Morse.

When you get a chance, look up these "artists"... Wesley Willis and Hasil Adkins.
Wesley Willis was a diagnosed schizophrenic street nigger in Chicago, totally unemployable (what nigger is employable?), so Wesley played his cheap synthesizer keyboard on the sidewalk for spare change. Well, when I say "played," I mean he hit the demo button and let it play in a loop while he sang to it. And when I say "sing," I mean he howled like a crazy nigger. Which he was.
Hasil Adkins was a dirty white hillbilly who grew up listening to the Grand Ol' Opry on the radio. Thing was, only listening to radio, Hasil had never seen a band perform before, so he thought the guy who was singing was also playing all the instruments. So that's how Hasil taught himself music. He played the guitar, a regular drum set and a harmonica all at the same time, and composed songs about chopping off his girlfriend's head.
Check 'em out. I find them amusing.

Rock N Roll Nigger is a GREAT song, it's actually in the movie Natural Born Killers.... Look it up, download it.... SoulSeek is your friend! Manson redoes it on "Smells Like Children" but it's not as good as Patty Smith's.... You spare the child and spoil the rod, I have not sold myself to God.... I love that line....lol
Yeeah, I love that album Easter. I actually used a line from that as my sig. on another website. I think it went like....
"Nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger"
You gotta love that!

I live and breathe all things Misfits. This sounds really lame, but I got into the Misfits via Metallica. Cliff Burton had the fiend skull tattooed on his forearm, and (probably in tribute to him) the band squished "Green Hell" & "Last Caress" together on Garage Days Revisited, then covered "Die, Die My Darling" on Garage, Inc. I wanted to hear the original versions of the songs, so I downloaded them. Then I downloaded some more Misfits. And then some more...
I have the entire Misfits discography on my computer. And no Metallica.
I also love Rammstein, Seraphim Shock (http://www.myspace.com/HalloweenSexNVegas), Type O Negative, The Wall-era Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Sabbath, etc.
When I find something I like, I'll listen to it until my ears bleed.

It's ALWAYS great to meet a fellow fiend.... Cliff's "Crimson Ghost" tattoo was actually on his shoulder, I have one on my shoulder and my forearm. It's kool that your into them at your age, it make's me feel good that they are still attracting young people.... Checkout "misfitscentral.com" then go to "share" there's alot of kool stuff available on there. Or just let me know I have everything they ever recorded....
I listen to quite an eclectic mix but I would have to say
1.Metallica
'2. Iggy Pop
3. Gogol Bordello
4, Ramones
'5. The Cramps
and i ablsolutely love any rockabilly- old, new, whatever, Gene Vincent, Charlie Feathers, Hasil Adkins, Reverend Horton Heat, etc.

Someone tried to get me into Tool but I can't fucking stand that whiny grunge garbage. The guitar work is slow, clumsy, and sluggish and the lead singer's voice has an effect on me like fingernails on chalkboard. IMO Tool is just a heavy version of Radiohead. Comparing them to Pink Floyd is blasphemy.

Been listening to homegrown music the past couple of weeks. Have been really enjoying Groovers Paradise, and the first 13TH Floor Elevators album. When Roky lets out that first scream on "Im Gonna Miss You"...WOW. The birth of psychedelic music and punk all in one song. And yeah before you ask, I have had a couple of pints these evening, watching the beautiful Texas sunset.
