The life-sized bust showing the Roman ruler with wrinkles and hollows in his face is tentatively dated to 46 B.C. Divers uncovered the Caesar bust and a collection of other finds in the Rhone near the town of Arles - founded by Caesar.

Among other items in the treasure trove of ancient objects is a 5.9 foot marble statue of Neptune, dated to the first decade of the third century after Christ.

Two smaller statues, both in bronze and measuring 27.5 inches each also were found, one of them, a satyr with his hands tied behind his back, "doubtless" originated in Hellenic Greece, the ministry said.

"Some (of the discoveries) are unique in Europe," Culture Minister Christine Albanel said. The bust of Caesar is in a class by itself.

"This marble bust of the founder of the Roman city of Arles constitutes the most ancient representation known today of Caesar," the ministry statement said, adding that it "undoubtedly" dates to the creation of Arles in 46 B.C.

Isn't it amazing that we can know what Julius Caesar looked like? He's right before our eyes from 2000 years ago!

what I find incredibly amazing is the fact that these beautiful sculptures were all carved with relatively simple, unsophisticated tools.

Very cool. I thought I only was the only history nerd here! That kind of stuff really is facinating. Especially ancient Rome and Europen history. I have been studying the Vikings of the 8th and 9th centuries AD for nearly ten years. Bur Rome is also endlessly interesting.

Excellent! We need more discoveries like this. It will cause humans to get in touch with their roots and see nigger "culture" - rapping, raping, rioting, and so on - for the abomination it is.

Now, let's not be hasty...I'm sure his sow invented the first hair straightening product to make that nappy mess lie down properly!:lol Seriously, though...it's always amazing to see what beautiful art our human ancestors were capable of, even thousands of years ago as compared to what the feral nigger beasts are capable of...today! I don't understand how somebody can look upon that sculpture and actually believe that it's creator was "just the same" as a nigger animal. There is no way, and this sort of discovery brings the knowledge home.
