I think my new laptop has picked up a virus. Fucking fake torrents, grrrrr :trll I downloaded what I thought was a working copy of MS Office keygen :trll

My start menu has disappeared, I get a black screen when I log on with the 'my documents' folder open. I can then navigate to the desktop folder and thats how I've managed to get online. I've tried restarting in safe mode and I still get the same shit. I'm running antivirus right now, its doing a thorough scan but nothing has come up yet.

I'm not much of a techie and I am going up the wall with this

A few years ago, I downloaded DvdXCopy that had a keygen. It put all kinds of shit on that computer. It was never the same.

Does anyone know exactly what a keygen is?

Keygen is a key generator so you can register some programmes fo free :bbl Sometimes they have viruses though :trll My laptop comes with a 60 day trial of the latest version of Office, and I was trying to crack the code. Oh well, looks like I will have to install an older version lol.

I had a look at some geek forums and I read a post saying start task manager and then file run explorer.exe.

And whoohoo my desktop is back to normal. I'm not sure if this will be fixed when I reboot - I'm running regcure at the mo and its found lots of errors and fixed them so I'm running it again just to make sure

Well, no luck on reboot :(
I've been doing a bit of research and it seems I have a bug called backdoor.prorat

I'm trying to get rid of it without messing up my registry. I've got avast! anti virus

Before you open any programs, you can right click and have avast scan it deeply. This should protect you in the future.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (it's free) and perform a full scan. This may help quarantine anything else that might be causing you problems.
