Movies For Whites by Whites.thumbsup OR movies with the word "WHITE" in the title.
For my first post I want to tell you about this 1952 black and WHITE film I just watched last night:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/images/2558mane.jpg
An eloquently photographed film which tells the story of a proud white stallion that continually eludes the attempts of a group of ranchers to catch it, only to be tamed by the love of a young boy.
This is not an actual movie but more of a short. I was Very taken with this film. It reminded me somewhat of my own childhood in France. Some parts were almost identical.
I don't know who the little girl was but I am assuming it was his sister and the old man his Grandpapa.
Animal lovers will Adore this film but it will leave you with a hole in your heart.

White Squall combines male bonding drama, high seas adventure, and coming-of-age stories. For his first film since the disastrously dull 1492: Conquest of Paradise, director Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Alien, Thelma and Louise) has again turned to the ocean. This time, however, instead of sinking the film with a needlessly meandering plot, he energizes the screen with a movie that gives the audience an involving narrative and characters to care about.
Based on the true-life memoirs of Chuck Gieg, White Squall introduces us to 13 high school students who have elected to spend the 1960-61 academic year on the American schoolship Albatross (a windjammer based out of Mystic, Connecticut). The Captain is Christopher Sheldon (Jeff Bridges), a man who preaches two lessons: the importance of unity among the crew and that "the ship beneath [them] is not a toy and sailing's not a game." His wife, Alice (Caroline Goodall), is the ship's doctor and the boys' science teacher. Other adults aboard are a Shakespeare-quoting English teacher (John Savage) and a Cuban cook (Julio Mechoso).
The young crew includes Chuck (Tom Cruse look-alike Scott Wolf), an all-American student who wants to break away from his parents' vision of what his future should be; Tod (Balthazar Getty), a tough-as-nails kid who hides a secret; Frank (Jeremy Sisto), who can't escape from under his rich father's thumbnail; and Gill (Ryan Phillipe), a young man with a desperate fear of heights. The trip on the Albatross is their rite of passage. By the end of White Squall, those who have survived are no longer boys, but men.
Given the title, it's no secret that the Albatross runs into real trouble. In nautical language, a "white squall" is a sudden, violent, wind-and-lightning storm that can take the sturdiest ship and snap it in two. However, this meteorological catastrophe doesn't make an appearance until the film's last forty-five minutes. Until then, White Squall devotes itself to developing its young characters, their growing admiration for their skipper, and the relationships amongst them. While some of this drama relies on familiar formulas, a capable director like Scott can maintain the audience's attention through a long setup.
As is typical of a Scott film, the visuals are marvelous. The scenes of the Albatross as it rises and falls with the swells of the sea are majestic, and the fury of the squall is as terrifying an experience as you're likely to find in an adventure film these days. With the aid of cinematographer Hugh Johnson, Scott composes each of these grand sequences carefully, in order to convey the maximum effect.
Jeff Bridges, who is beginning to look more like his father with every passing picture, is in top form, providing a compelling father-figure/mentor. The role isn't exactly unique, but Bridges brings enough personality to Chris Sheldon to create an interesting character. John Savage, who hasn't done a film in a while, is delightful as McCrea. The young actors playing the boys vary from passable to good, with those having key roles doing the better jobs.
For nearly two hours, White Squall is a completely involving motion picture, keeping its comic, dramatic, and tragic elements in perfect balance. Unfortunately, the need to end with a Dead Poets' Society-like catharsis brings the conclusion down. Hopelessly corny and needlessly-manipulative, the last scene is bad melodrama. Mercifully, it lasts only a few minutes, and the overriding image left with the viewer as the end credits roll is not of this silliness but of the Albatross riding the seas in the face of a hurricane-force wind. White Squall is a success because the good elements are so well-orchestrated that they dwarf the few obvious flaws. This film offers just about everything, including a twenty-minute white-knuckle sequence and a chance to shed a few tears. In short, it's first-rate entertainment.
I LOVE this movie and have watched it probably a half dozen times and MAY watch it again a few more. thumbsup

White Noise. It sucked.
I admit the story was a bit complicated and sometimes was just plain wierd, but I thought it was pretty scary toward the end. I had to watch it a few times to make any sense of it.

AFAIK that's the biggest stinker Michael Keaton ever made. I liked most of his movies growing up.
It's difficult to find honkey movies anymore. They all think they need to throw Token in the mix to get it sold as EEOC compliant.

Thirty years old and single, Beatrix Potter lives in London with her social-climbing parents, who are exasperated that she has turned down any number of eligible young men. Her only real friends are the animals which since childhood she has lovingly drawn and made up stories about. She finally succeeds in selling a book of the stories, and it becomes Norman Warne's first project. He quickly falls in love with both the book and Beatrix and together they carefully arrange publication. This proves the first of many successes, offering her the possibility of escaping from both her parents' way of life and London.

White Noise. It sucked.
White Noise did indeed suck. In fact, I think it was the death knell for Michael Keaton's career. The build-up and marketing ploys were great though.

Based on Rolf Hochhuth's controversial 1963 play 'The Deputy', Costa-Gavras' film dramatises the failure of the Roman Catholic Church to denounce the extermination of the Jews during WWII.
A committed Protestant and devoted family man, SS officer Kurt Gerstein (Tukur) is appalled to discover that the Zyclon B poison gas he has helped develop is being used to exterminate Jewish prisoners at Auschwitz. Driven by his conscience to alert the rest of the world, he visits the Papal Nuncio in Berlin, who simply dismisses his claims. A young Jesuit priest however, Riccardo Fontana (Kassovitz), encourages Gerstein to visit the Vatican City, where his father is close to Pope Pius XII. Surely the pontiff himself will speak out about the atrocities Gerstein has witnessed and documented?

I believe there was a sequel to White Noise, but the 1st was bad so I didn't watch it.
I hadn't heard of either of these movies but they aren't really what I like so I probably won't watch them anytime soon.

Jonathan Rivers (Michael Keaton) is a successful architect, and lives a peaceful life with his wife Anna (Chandra West), until her unexpected and violent death.
Eventually, he is contacted by Raymond Price (Ian McNeice), who claims that his son has also died, and that he has recorded messages from Anna through EVP. While Jonathan is initially dismissive, he begins to believe that the recorded voice is indeed that of his wife.
Jonathan becomes obsessed with trying to contact her himself, despite warnings from a psychic who tries to tell him how the recording can attract other, unwanted entities. A woman named Sarah Tate befriends Jonathan because she lost someone too.
Raymond is found dead. Jonathan discovers three shadowy figures, and finds that some of the messages he is coming across are from people who have not yet died but may soon do so, one of whom is a missing girl named Mary Freeman. Sarah later either tries to commit suicide or is thrown off the edge of a building by the three spirit figures.
Jonathan locates the site of his wife's death by following signs on recordings, and finds a construction worker from his company, holding Mary captive. The three ghosts torture Jonathan and cause him to fall to his death, but a SWAT team arrives and is able to save Mary.
At his funeral Sarah sits in her wheelchair, still disturbed by his death, the three ghosts shadows flash in the grass behind. Then she feels his spirit.

After witnessing the murder of his wife and young son at the hands of Henry Caine (Craig Fairbrass) who then turned the gun on himself, Abe Dale (Nathan Fillion) is so distressed that he attempts to take his own life. A near-death experience follows that leaves Abe with the ability to identify those who are about to die. He acts on these premonitions to save three people from death, among them a nurse met during his recovery, Sherry Clarke (Katee Sackhoff). Abe soon learns that Henry, before murdering Abe's wife and son, actually saved their lives. This leds Abe to believe that Henry also had the ability to see death. This makes Abe want to learn more about Henry, so he visits his house only to learn that Henry survived his suicide. Investigating further, Abe discovers that three days after cheating death, those whose lives he saved will be possessed and compelled to take the lives of others. Accepting this responsibility, Abe comes with the terms of a horrible fact that he must consider killing to prevent further tragedy.
