Study shows U.S. broadband speeds continue to lag

The report, released Tuesday, consists of data from 230,000 online speed tests across the U.S. In its Speed Matters blog announcing the study's results, the group highlighted that the average download speeds increased only 0.4 megabits per second to 2.3Mbps. By contrast, the average download speed in Japan is 63 Mbps and in South Korea the average download speed is 49 Mbps.

The local telco just installed a fiber box on a telephone pole about a mile from here. Pretty soon, we should be able to get fiber to our homes, I think they are advertising 15MB/s download and 1MB/s upload speed.
While not as quick as Korea, it's a nice increase for most of the people in our neighborhood.
I'll jump if they allow static IPs. If not, I'll stick with my present ISP who's service and speed are very, very good.
